Top 5 Wednesday: Books from before I joined Goodreads

Top 5 Wednesday is exactly what it sounds like; a Top 5, every wednesday. It was created by Ginger reads Lainey and is now hosted by Thoughts on Tomes. The HQ are on the Goodreads Group if you’d like to join !

Here’s the thing: Me and Goodreads go way back, and before it, I didn’t even think to track my reading 😂 So this list will be based on memory, and the book on my ‘read’ shelf that don’t have a finishing date. Because if I read it back then and had a GR, I’d definitely have updated when I finished the book :3

So ! There we go:

1. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Rating: ★★★★★

Why this one, of all HP books? Because this, dear friends, is my most reread book ever. I can’t even tell you how many times I read it. Suffice to say one more reread and the cover and spine would take on a life of their own and attack me 😂 I bought a new copy and reread that one, I’m stubborn like that 💙

2. Le Passager – Jean-Christophe Grangé

This one is a french thriller book I finished back in April 2014. The title means ‘The Passenger’ (Yes, like THE Passenger movie, but this one’s symbolic). This book is STILL one of my favorites of all time. It’s seriously overlooked because it wasn’t translated in english. Because if it was, it would have a smashing success. Here’s what it’s about (In quotation for the sake of neatness, but I wrote it)

A series of gruesome murders inspired by greek mythology starts at the same time as Dr. Matthias Freire recieves a patient affected with an amnesia-like condition which causes a complete over-writing of long-term memory; replacing the original memories with entirely made-up ones. And this patient happens to have been found near the crime scene.

As the examination of the amnesiac goes on, Freire himself becomes the main suspect of the crimes, as his fingertips are found all over the crime-scene. Soon enough he finds out he’s not so sure he’s a doctor. And his identity papers are fake. And the boxes in his house, the ones he always thought his belongings were just moved in ? Empty.

An insane fast-paced chase starts as Freire doubts his own past and identity and unravels them one by one, like going through a maze where the end is who he really is.

This book, was insane. It was slow to start, true, but once it did, it goes crazy good !! I reread it twice, I think. It reads like a crime series, action-packed, but gives time for investigation and keeps its suspense all throughout the book. Plot-twists ahead, with a fair share of doubting everything you think you know. MASSIVE shock at the very last sentence. Seriously, if you can read french, or german (it was translated in it) READ THIS. Come find me if you do 😭💔

3. Inheritance by Christopher Paolini

Rating: ★★★★★

This last book is my favorite of this series because of how much I liked it. After reading so many epic books I’m not sure how I’d think about it now, but at the time, when I finished it I literally looked at it and said ”I promise I’ll reread you 😭😭😭” …

I still haven’t 😂

4. And Then There Were None – Agatha Christie

Rating: ★★★★★

I read this one in french (Yup, I read a lot of french back then. I learned french before english, that’s why) and I was blown away. I expected that would happen, because this wasn’t my first Agatha Christie read, but STILL.

5. The Forgotten Warrior by Erin Hunter

Rating: ★★★★★

I’m using this book to speak about the entirety of the Warrior Cats books, because it has the best cover. To me they are Reading Glue. They were so good that I clearly remember reading until 4 a.m when the sun was rising. Multiple times with this series. And the prequel series to it? Made me cry 😭
