Fictional World Tours, Giant dog-ears, and Kaz’s Underrated Breakfast// Dream Book Upgrades

Warning: most of these are not feasible on a grand scale because they are too costly and the world has way too many copies to print. Hence, the ‘Dream’ part of the title.
Anyhow, back to our daydreaming purposes. I won’t number these because I’m trying to hide my inner evil. Count them yourself and see why.
( To spare you some math, they’re 8. What can I say ? I’m evil like that. Make them 10 yourself, sheesh. )

P.S: Brief moment to vent to you and confess that this one song just CAN’T seem to stop replaying again and again in my head. It’s Heathens by Twenty One Pilots. Aka Song Glue (TM). UGH GET OUT O’ MY HEAD

Okay, without any more ado I’ll just get to the point before you bolt to the back button or be the first to throw a tomato at me.

Waterproof Books.

My life would have 20% less stress if my books were waterproof ! Or at least one. So that at least when I’d reread it I’d be safe. I mean, SO much water around. Shower water, taps, drinking water, your own saliva, 70% of you, coffee, milk, coke, the sea, the ocean, rain. There’s always a body of water around books. It’s basically Final Destination for books out there. And in there. Anywhere D: !! #paranoid

Fireproof Books

Does Superman accidentally burn through a book if he reads and things get intense in them ? Is Superman even a reader ? I have no idea. Interesting question though xD Well now you know why we need fireproof books. Superman saves the world. The least we could do is make him fireproof books.

Flexible undog-earable paper

Because WHAT if you drop your book and the WHOLE book becomes a giant dog ear ? You can see me cringe 2 miles away at the thought. Or, realistically, 20 pages of it. Or worse, the cover ? *eyes glaze over* I need paper that doesn’t leave a spot when folded. Or that doesn’t fold. Like a sponge. That’ll be handy, thank you very much.

Paperback covers that don’t peel in 2, or worse, 3

You know how paperback covers are. You put them in a backpack ONE time, and suddenly they peel like an onion from the corner while I sob about it in an actual corner. If covers were more sturdy, I’d be 20% happier in my life.

Lighter hardbacks

*sigh* Do I need to say anything more ? If you’d squeeze a number of hardbacks that’s less than impressive into the size of a paperback you’d, like, get yourself a free black hole.

Book Soundtracks

Trivia time: I was actually going to write a discussion on pros and cons of this if it would happen, but I changed my mind because meh.
I still really wish that book soundtracks were common, free, cheap or at least accompagnied with a physical or an ebook copy. But nah. I don’t got that kind of money *sigh*

Character trivia at the end of the book

I NEED this in my life. Heck, even if it’s what Kaz ate for breakfast that random uneventful day or Nina’s birthday or Kvothe’s favorite day of the week, I CARE, OKAY ? I wish there was even a small trivia section, just to get that extra inch closer to the characters.

World Tour/ Explained Maps

*flail* WHY has no one done this before ? I would dive at the opportunity to get a small paragraph describing what every important city or place looks like, what’s the first thing you’d notice about it,… Even if the characters won’t go there or if it isn’t important to the story. Consider the hardcore fans, peeps!! It’s 1. Really cool.
2. Expands the worldbuilding
3. Brings the map to life. What’s worse than a mute map of places with unpronounceable unreadable names ? I mean, what is even the POINT ?

That’s all you get for today, you little greedy library monsters. Now tell me; Do you wish these changes were made to ‘level-up’ books ? What other things are on your dream book upgrades ?

  1. Waterproof books would be so interesting!

I would also be in favor of some kind of paperback that had a cover that didn’t get bent. (I mean, that’s sort of what a hardcover is, but I agree with you that hardcovers are heavy.) So maybe I want a light unbendable book.

    1. That actually would be the invention of the century πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ also it’d make hardbacks all sorts of pointless πŸ˜‚ But I still would love something like that ! It always breaks my smol heart into tiny little pieces when the cover accidentally gets bent, or worse, peeled *shudders violently*

  2. Love this post! πŸ˜€ ❀ Waterproof books would be a dream. You could finally read a book in the rain! Not sure why you'd want to, but at least the option would always be there. Also, you wouldn't have to worry about the moisture crimping the pages. Ah fireproof books. I could safely read by candlelight. And I wouldn't have to worry about them (*knock on wood*) burning down in a house fire. True story: There was a huge fire in Southern California about a month ago called the Canyon 2 fire and if the wind had blown south just a bit, my area would have had to be evacuated. Just in case, I packed up my favorite hardbacks and nothing else XD LOL. I didn't even THINK about clothes or documents. Books first LOL

Dog-eared pages almost make me faint every time I see them. And those monsters who dog-ear them break my heart every single time. WHY? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? One of my newer paperbacks peeled in my purse and I nearly cried. A sturdier cover would be much appreciated, thank you very much. While I love the weight of a hardback, I cant deny that something lighter would make life easier haha. Oh my god, YES to book soundtracks. Why aren't these a thing?? Some songs would go PERFECTLY with a book. I couldn't stop thinking about this sad dilemma ever since I paired "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" with Six of Crows. I mean, it's perfect!

I love trivia. Any type of trivia is welcome in my book. Also, trivia at the end would help me remember things and get to know the characters a little better. And that last idea is brilliant. Brilliant I say! 10/10. A+. I'd love a good world tour and get to know the fantastical set-up in much more depth!

    1. Oh! And waterproof books would be protected from mould. Did you know books can actually MOULD ? Like, *SHUDDER* Oh my God I feel you so badly πŸ˜‚ I’m so glad the fire didn’t get to your area ! Heck, if I fell holding my book I’d check it for tears or cover-sized dog-ears before I check whether I’m hurt or not πŸ˜‚ I can recover, my book can’t πŸ˜‚
I know right ! I literally have an emergency bookmark by my bed in case I need it. And now I want to carry around emergency bookmarks for people reading in the street and about to dog-ear. Like, use a paper, a hair clip, a leaf, my shirt, just don’t do that πŸ˜‚ My copy of Furthermore peeled and it still pains me to even think about it 😭 *steps backwards 2 meters to faint on the nearby couch*
*sigh* What I wouldn’t give to know a few bookish character life hacks ! How to disarm anyone in 3 seconds πŸ˜‚ how to survive Ketterdam and still only be a little insane πŸ˜‚ How to always find a witty remark πŸ˜‚ Thank you so much πŸ˜€πŸ’™ If it could happen, the reader wouldn’t have to be limited to a single place in which the main character evolves, but would remember the world more vividly than a map and one or two locales !

      1. Jeez, I forgot books could mould. So many ways for a book to be destroyed. NOOOOO! On my god, yes, i’d do the same exact thing. We must protect our books at all costs πŸ˜‚
I have all sorts of bookmarks, and when I can’t find them, I use whatever is closest: movie tickets, receipts, and random piece of paper. ANYTHING would be better than dog-earing a page LOL
What fun it would be to always have a witty remark πŸ˜πŸ˜†
